The massive painting “Wheat Dance” was revealed during a news event, Friday, July 19 near Kellogg and Ridge Road in west Wichita. The billboard-size painting was created by participants in the Ballet Wichita 5K Art run held June 22 in downtown Wichita. After the run, the feet and shoes of the participants were coated with paint. The runners could then leave heir personal impression on the vinyl. The project was art directed by Los Angeles-based artist and former Wichitan, Rachel Kice. She titled the piece “Wheat Dance” in recognition of ballet, Kansas agriculture and the successes of Wichita State University.
Clear Channel Outdoor will move the painting periodically throughout the year for the entire city to enjoy.
Armstrong Chamberlin was major sponsor of the event.
